Figma Config 2026 blurs design and code

At Config 2026 on June 24, Figma rolled out a batch of AI features aimed at turning its canvas into an "intelligent canvas." Figma Motion brings timeline-based animation directly into the tool, work that used to mean jumping to Adobe. Code Layers convert designs into interactive code in a click and sync changes back. Generative plugins let you describe a tool in plain language instead of building one, and the design agent gained custom skills and connectors to Slack, GitHub, and Notion.

The clear target is Adobe's grip on motion and effects, though Adobe still owns print, photo, and video workflows Figma doesn't touch.

For a small or mid-size business, this narrows the gap between a design mockup and a working page, which can shorten the handoff that usually eats time and budget. It doesn't replace a designer's judgment about what to build. Treat these as faster tools for a skilled hand, not a shortcut around one.
