Duluth bets on steady marketing with a five-year deal

On March 11, 2025, the Duluth City Council approved a five-year marketing contract putting Visit Duluth back at the helm of promoting the city. After a stretch of uncertainty about who steered tourism, the vote settled the question and gave the work a long runway instead of year-to-year guessing.

The quiet lesson is in the timeframe. Marketing that gets rebuilt from scratch every year never compounds. A five-year horizon lets a brand voice, a look, and an audience build on themselves.

For a small or mid-size business, you don't need a council vote to apply this. The businesses that get remembered are the ones that keep showing up with a consistent message, not the ones that reinvent their website and social feed every few months chasing something new. Pick a direction you can hold, keep your site and listings aligned with it, and let the repetition do the work. Consistency is a strategy, not a rut.
