A global electronics giant runs from Thief River Falls

In 1972, electrical engineer Ronald Stordahl founded Digi-Key in Thief River Falls, a town of about 9,000 in far northern Minnesota. From there it grew into one of the largest electronics distributors on the planet, shipping millions of components to engineers all over the world, often the same day.

A rural address turned out to be no obstacle to serving a global market. The internet erased the distance.
