Super Bowl LX in February 2026 marked a clear shift in who buys the most expensive airtime in advertising. AdImpact counted 12 AI-related national spots from 11 advertisers, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, a 140 percent jump over the prior year. There were more AI platform ads than beer and auto ads combined.
Performance backed the spend. Per EDO's rankings, ai.com was the single most effective advertiser in any category, and other AI tools also finished above average. One vodka brand even aired the first national Super Bowl ad made mostly with AI.
You aren't buying Super Bowl time. The takeaway is quieter: a whole category decided that clearly explaining what a new tool does, to people who have never used it, was worth its biggest marketing bet. If your product is unfamiliar to most of your market, plain explanation beats clever branding. Show the thing working before you try to make anyone feel something.
