The frontier keeps moving. OpenAI shipped a new GPT-5.6 family this summer and Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5, both faster and, in places, cheaper to run than last year's models. Google, meanwhile, reportedly delayed the broad release of its flagship Gemini 3.5 Pro by months after internal testing showed it fell short on coding and complex, long-horizon reasoning.
The lesson isn't which logo wins. It's that even the biggest labs miss, and "newest" doesn't always mean "best for your job."
